In April 2003, one of Canada’s most important Indie Rock bands came together when Spencer Krug, then a member of Frog Eyes, was invited to perform a tour by Montreal indie label Grenadine Records’ boss Alex Megelas. Within three week’s time, the project was joined by guitarist/vocalist Dan Boeckner and Arlen Thompson. Hadji Bakara was added for a short time to contribute his synthesizer and sound manipulation skills. In 2005, guitarist/percussionist Dante De Caro joined Wolf Parade to complete the lineup.
Instantly amazing, Wolf Parade attracted the attention of Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock, at the time an A & R man for Sub Pop Records, who secured the band a place on the Sub Pop roster, and recorded their first EP.
This Family Tree also notes the more obscure projects the members of Wolf Parade have contributed to, including Krug’s early ska band(!)Two Tonne Bowlers, instrumental trio Fifths Of Seven, God Shaped Vacuum and Moonface. Bakara is also active elsewhere, working on his own project Megasoid, and Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible LP.

Canadian Indie Super-group The New Pornographers have found themselves on the bad side of the press lately, after the disastrous cancellation of their concert for the students of Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA’s Calvin College, due solely to sensitivity towards the band’s name.
How did these upstanding musicians find themselves in such a dire situation? What happened? I mean, they won a Juno award,in 2001, for Best Alternative Album, for their awesome Début, Mass Romantic. Each subsequent release has been loved and cherished by critics and fans alike…
Maybe the answers can be found in their colorful past, including Carl Newman’s ‘inspirational’ music stint in Thee Crusaders.
This Family Tree is a tribute to the years and years of honest labour, and artistic achievement, The New Pornographers have given the Indie music scene.
